An important part of this newsletter for me is deep-diving into one of the 64 Human Design Gates. With whatever gate is highlighted in a month, note where that gate shows up in your chart (incarnation cross, Jupiter Gate, Mars Gate, you have the partner gate defined, etc.). If you’re unsure about where this Gate shows up in your chart, feel free to send me an email and I’ll give you a quick insight. Also, remember that there is universal wisdom in all the gates, so even if this gate isn’t a biggie in your chart, it doesn’t mean there aren’t nuggets to take from understanding its acuity.
For this month, I wanted to do a Gate that was prominent in my own chart, and I kept being drawn to highlighting Gate 51 (the Gate of Shock). This little baby sits right in my Incarnation Cross and sure is a biggie for me.
Gate 51 brings with it the ability to undergo shocking experiences and come out stronger. This Gate is all about the power to not only endure life’s surprises, but to take those experiences and grow from them.
Sitting in my Conscious Earth placement, the energy of Gate 51 feels very grounding to me (even though inherently it’s a gate that has a lot of unpredictability tied to it). With this placement in my chart, I find that it’s reassuring to know that whatever I face, there are always gifts and strengths to glean from whatever “shock” I’ve encountered.
That, I suppose, is the real wisdom of Gate 51. It’s the understanding that whatever happens to us (or, rather, through us) in our lives, we have the ability to alchemize that energy into its highest potential.
It’s a reassuring thought for someone like me, who struggled with control for so long. I used to struggle to control everything about my environment in an attempt to feel safe. The freedom of Gate 51 is the understanding that actual safety is found within ourselves. It doesn’t come from controlling every possible outcome, it comes from knowing that whatever the “shock” we might experience, we have the ability to handle it by being grounded in our authentic selves.
